Bairstow started his senior career with Yorkshire in 2009 where he top scored with an unbeaten 82 in his debut against Somerset.During the game he also took over from the injured wicketkeeper and held four catches behind the stumps. He was a regular for Yorkshire in 2010 averaging more than 40 runs for a second consecutive season. He scored his first century in 2011 against Nottinghamshire when he also became the teams established wicketkeeper. These successes led to a call up to the England ODI squad making his debut against India and helping his side to victory with 41 runs off just 21 balls. His Test match debut came in 2012 against West Indies at Lords and he was in and out of the England set up for various reasons in the next few years. In 2015 he became the regular choice England wicketkeeper and made his first century for England in a 150 not out score in the Test Match against South Africa in Newlands. He and Ben Stokes put on a World record 6th wicket partnership of 399 runs in that match. He continued to play both Test matches and ODI's and in 2019 was member of Englands World Cup winning side. In June 2022 during the 2nd Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge he hit a match winning 136 off just 92 balls as part of a successful England chase of 299. His hundred came off just 77 balls making it the second fastest Test century by an England batsman.
